So, the awesome thing about having your own company is getting to act when you want to! The hard part? Not doing everything else involved with doing a show! As it is, on Down the Road I am yes, the producer as well as many other roles in the moving parts for this show, in addition to playing the part of Iris Henniman. I've enjoyed beyond words, the rehearsal time with my "husband" Jake Lyall, and our "serial killer" Dustin Miller. Director Kara Ow has provided us with a forum for play and exploration that has led to an already fierce show: and we open in TWO WEEKS!!
I read the play a couple years ago while working on scenes from it with a friend in an acting workshop. It haunted me, in the ways good material can. I had the opportunity to speak with Lee Blessing, the writer, at length about the show and received an insight into his ideas behind the play. I found him to be more than willing to tell all about writing it, the whys and hows of each character.
"Is Iris the driving force behind Dan (her husband) and Reach (killer)?" I asked.
"Yes, in as much as women are always the driving force for men in all aspects of our lives. They are who we come from. How could we not find them our driving force?" he responded.
Well said Mr. Blessing, well said.
Join me as Iris and travel Down the Road...
