Look Back In Anger by John Osborne is a timeless portrayal of the anger experienced at what divides us in every day life. The "angry young men" were a group of mostly working and middle class British playwrights and novelists who became prominent in the 1950s. The group's leading members included John Osborne and Kingsley Amis. The phrase was originally coined by the Royal Court Theatre's press officer to promote John Osborne's 1956 play Look Back in Anger.
It is thought provoking: fashion makes the rounds, coming back time and time again but in a new form based on an iconic look from another time period, and so do political ideals and movements. We are in a time again here, now, of angry young men AND women, fighting against a system we don't understand at times and are frustrated with and feel minimized by. Watching Jimmy Porter play out these same types of struggles from 50 years ago shows how far we have come, yet how far we still have to go, with how we view classism, women, men and what we are made of. We look forward to having you watch the verbal explosions, heated passion of ideals and love and loss with this amazing cast along with our live musicians who add voice to our tortured heroes and heroines! |
