It's time to let you in on a little secret: String of Pearls is not just a bunch of touching and amusing little tales about how a piece of jewelry affects and connects the women in the play. Far from it. In this story, disease happens. Heartbreak happens. Loss happens. Death happens.
Christine plays two characters that deal with all of the above. And yet, she calls it "fun"! Because that's life - finding the humor within the horrors of life, whether big or small.
In addition to the character of Dora, whose childhood was tragically and forever impacted by WWII, Christine also plays Kyle's mother, which she says is the character she enjoys playing most, despite the physical and mental challenges this woman faces. "Although [she] is suffering from a horrific disease, Alzheimer’s, she has those moments of lucidity that give her substance and believability...The humor in the scene is not there to make fun but instead ring true. Those who care for such patients can’t help but recall with fondness those funny moments, albeit frustrating at the time."
