Gayle knows how to tell a story. It's pretty much part of the job description if you're an actress and/or a parent, and Gayle is both. In STRING OF PEARLS she juggles storytelling and motherhood, both on stage and in real life, when she takes on the role of Ela. Through this character's story, Gayle shows us the humour and heartache that is an integral part of intimacy, even when you never never asked for it. In Ela's story, she somewhat reluctantly helps and befriends a sick woman...and ends up receiving so much more than she gives.
"Of the two characters I get to play, I would have to say Ela [has challenged me the most] - not only is she new to me (I got to play Kyle last year!) but she, next to Beth, has a LOT to say! The length of her story had intimidated me in the beginning, but now the challenge isn't so much remembering all her lines, but in telling her story. Ela is a very strong woman who has had a lot happen to her. Her story is complex; not only is it telling the story of her friend Linda, another strong woman, but its actually about both of them and their experience with and effect on each other. It is complex and beautiful and I want to not just "tell" their story, but to communicate the depth and importance of it to the audience. I only hope I can convey it well and not cry while doing it! (I love a beautiful story!) ;)"
Come see Gayle and the rest of the cast tell touching and amusing stories about this very special string of pearls THIS FRIDAY!
