Produced by The Ooley Theatre
Performances in Rep March 1st - 30th, 2025 This was a wonderful success this past year of 2024 and all who participated said how much they would love to again! This is a festival celebrating women in every age, stage and state of being. AUDITIONS ARE NOV. 2nd and 3rd at The Ooley Theatre Nov. 2nd - 11am to 3pm Nov. 3rd - 7pm to 9pm Drop ins welcome but we do ask you fill out the form below to audition and thank you! Emails can also be sent to [email protected] We focus the month on women yes, but we want all voices involved in this, just like last time. :) We really hope to see the women of the artist community in Sacramento come on out and play! Are you a director with a show you've been dying to do? An actor? Producer? Are you a poet, dancer, singer, comedian? Whatever type of live performance you do (no fire acts please though I am sad to say...), let us know! We are here to take a look and see if we can make you part of the festival! |
We have so many roles for amazing people (all genders and ethnicities welcome) and we would be thrilled if you are interested in joining us on this adventure. Because we have such a wide variety of pieces to audition for, we are going to ask you to simply prepare a monologue for us and we will then offer you a role to read for if one of our directors requires it. We have 9 directors involved so far who will be sitting in on auditions either in person or via zoom or will watch a recording.

You can let us know if you have a preference for a 10 minute piece or consideration for a full length piece. We have 4 full length shows to be considered for at this time, 2 original works and 2 published pieces.
Full length pieces will start rehearsals in December (working around the holidays of course) and shows will run in rep for the month of March starting Saturday March 1st and going through Sunday March 30th (5, weekends,4 full weeks). They will run Wednesday through Sunday each week of the festival.
We are working on the schedule but plan for any piece to be up twice each week of the festival if not 3 times each week.
Here is the current list of breakdowns for the shows:
PLAYS:
ORIGINAL WORKS:
ROWING UP SALT RIVER - by Candace Adams
The story of a stage coach driver in the 1870s who has everything to hide and an intrepid female reporter out for the truth.
This will be workshopped as we go, as it is ready to be put on its feet and the writer will be making revisions where necessary as we work it out!
SARAH - 20s - any ethnicity - feminine presenting or female investigative reporter
CHARLEY - 50s/60s - any ethnicity - a woman who has lived as a man most of her life and presents in all ways as a man to the outside world - we will consider women, trans and non-binary for this role
YOUNG CHARLEY - 20s/30s a version of Charley when they were first starting out as a driver
A WORK IN PROGRESS BY JUDITH PLANK
This is an expansion of a short play Judith wrote centering around a woman who leaves her abusive husband to open her own plumbing business to train and support other women who need help. We are excited to help develop this piece!
PUBLISHED PLAYS:
STRING OF PEARLS - by Michele Lowe
The journey of a pearl necklace throughout the years as it passes from woman to woman, changing her life in subtle and unexpected ways, it’s journey also so unexpected and beautiful.
6 - 8 Actors to portray an array of women from 1960 to 1992.
Yes, we have done this play before and it is always so popular it will be nice to do it once again. This will be an homage also, to our beautiful Bethany Hidden who performed in it last year for our very first Women’s Wit & Wisdom festival.
WOMEN LAUGH ALONE WITH SALAD - by Sheila Callaghan
“Women’s vulnerability to stereotypical images of beauty is illuminated in bracingly harsh light in Sheila Callaghan’s raw and raucous Women Laughing Alone With Salad… exuberantly vulgar… Ms. Callaghan’s dark comedy about the oppressive cultural standards by which women are forced to judge themselves, and one another, makes fierce and funny points.” —The New York Times
TORI - 20s - too thin for her own good, low self esteem, does all the things we wish we didn’t when we are not able to stand up for ourselves
MEREDITH - 30s - brash, bold, no holds barred, opposite in physical appearance from Tori, these two are complete opposites
SANDY - late 50s - Guys’ Mother, luxe type but prone to awkwardness
GUY - The guy in the mix, late 20s to early 30s, has no idea really how to be in life and is just trying to figure it out
TEN MINUTE PLAYS:
SPEED DATING - by Lee Zamloch
There are two pieces, one following a woman’s experience with the 3 minute round table and one following a man’s. Hilarious parody of speed dating at it’s best and worst for all concerned.
Part 1:
MARGERY - the host of the dating event - 50s/60s
SOPHIE - Woman in her 50s/60s just trying to put herself out there again
BEN - looking for a trophy woman
TOM - the engineer who needs everything orderly
AL - the egoist
SEBASTIAN - the ladies man
HARRY - the possible murderer
MIKE - still in love with his ex
WILLIAM - the one??
Part 2: SECOND CHANCES - MEN’s NIGHT
MARGERY - the host is back!
MARK - 50s/60s - just trying to put himself out there again
FRAN - the alcoholic
BARBIE - the gold digger
GEORGIE - the cat lady
EVIE - the sue happy blamer of everyone else but herself
DEBBIE - stuck in the 1950s
SIENNA - the serial killer
MARAGRET - the one????
WELCOME TO THE REVOLUTION. THANK YOU. - by Andrea Aptecker
When Luna is called into a mysterious office to answer for her “sin,” she tries to convince the AI receptionist to let her go. But the doors are locked and there’s no escape. But perhaps the receptionist has her own plans for Luna.
LUNA - (Woman), age 25, any race/ethnicity.
RECEPTIONIST - (Woman): The receptionist. She appears to be AI/robot. Her speech is somewhat robotic/off-kilter. Any age over 40, any race/ethnicity.
DAWNA - (Woman), any age over 25, any race/ethnicity.
MARG - (Woman), any age over 35, any race/ethnicity
There are more opportunities coming up as well but this is where we are starting
I look forward to hearing from each of you if you. Let me know if you want to audition, direct or be behind the scenes as SM, tech operations (lights, sound, cameras), production (marketing), or logistics (helping to get box office volunteers, running the change overs from show to show, etc).
