THE OOLEY THEATRE OPENING GALA and FESTIVAL
Welcome to the "new" Ooley Theatre!
While this little 35 seat venue has been around for over 20 years, it has been taken over to become a full time live event venue for our community as a non-profit! To kick off The Ooley's journey as it continues on in this path is our first production under The Ooley umbrella:
Women's Wit and Wisdom.
This 3 week festival features plays from local female playwrights, published works highlighting women in history, as well as showcasing the debut of several new directors who are finding their voice in the world of theater. We are thrilled to be producing these selections as we dive into supporting artists of many types at this intimate venue.
The following shows are in our festival in a rotation of dates and times you can catch in person or live stream!
A Voice of My Own by Elinor Jones
"Covering a broad spectrum from Sappho to writers of the present day, the play points up not only the triumphs of women in literature, but also the discouragement, derision and disbelief to which they were too often subjected. Spanning twenty-six centuries, the play evokes the words and feelings of women who were frequently obliged to hide behind anonymity or male names in order to practice their art, and from whom fantastic strength of character and indomitability were required. That they succeeded so brilliantly in their efforts is not only a tribute to these talented women in particular but, in a more general sense, to the irrepressible spirit of the entire “other half” of humanity, whose voice would not be denied."

String of Pearls by Michele Lowe
Michele Lowe's radiant play explores the possibilities that open up in the lives of an array of women as they come into contact with a certain strand of pearls. While the pearls are stolen, bought, bestowed, unstrung and nearly lost, four actresses play 27 characters in this deeply moving drama that is as fresh as it is funny. On the eve of her granddaughter Amy's wedding, Beth asks to see the pearls she gave Amy's mother long ago. When Amy cannot produce them, Beth determines to find the pearls. She takes us back to the time when she received them and then gave them to her daughter, who passed them on to her dearest friend Ela who lost them one Sunday morning. Spanning 35 years, the pearls touch the lives of mothers and daughters, sisters and friends, even husbands and wives as they weave a deeply affecting story of love and loss.

What is a Bumpsale?
Bumpsale is a dynamic pricing service (also based out of Sacramento) that allows us to offer lower pricing that slowly increments (bumps up) after each ticket sold. This allows us to offer inclusive, community pricing that scales in a natural way for our community theatre livestreams. In a way that automatically increments the ticket pricing a small amount after each sale, and allows us to raise funds cumulatively for the different ticket price amounts. With your support of our live streams, The Ooley Theatre can be a community sponsored community theatre space.
As a non-profit theatre with just 35 seats, the Bumpsale pricing allows us to reach a much larger audience and still be able to offer more inclusive pricing to the community during our fundraisers.
Please tell your friends and families and online communities about livestreams at The Ooley Theatre (ooleytheatre.org redirects to our website hosted by Weebly)
