About Elise
To talk about EMH Productions is to essentially talk about myself as the company consists of, well, just me. It is my initials after all, Elise Marie Hodge. However, each project I've taken on can never succeed without the hard work of those who join in the creative fray. I love what I do, and I do quite a lot!
When I began EMH, it was always with an eye towards providing a place to allow myself and my fellow artists to grow as artists. The shows I produce are always something I have hand picked to showcase a specific story I believe deserves a voice. Sometimes I direct or act in them and once in awhile I even put up my own writing. I started EMH as a casting director workshop company in 2010, but I never would have been able to do so without the experiences gained from building the successful extra’s company, Vision Casting, in the years before that. Extra casting for TV and Film is an extremely high pressure, never ending blur of phone calls, emails, fires to put out and personalities to soothe. If you don’t know what the extra’s world is, it’s like being an agent for people who stand around in the background for everything you ever watch. Vision Casting taught me how to work under extreme pressures, time management, to multitask, and to communicate with a vast and complex network of personalities effectively. What I had to learn next was how to make my own company become the success I knew it could be. I commuted for many years between LA and Sacramento to run the workshops, to build my acting career and to work with the theatre company I joined there. At a certain point, I realized I really wanted to produce my own content, as an actor, a director and writer. So I took the leap to produce theatre in Sacramento, where it was reasonably affordable and more compatible with my own endeavors financially as well as artistically. I closed the doors on the casting director workshops in 2016 after keeping my life in two cities no longer fulfilled my creative drive. EMH has evolved into a small production company I am proud to have developed and hope to continue to take to higher levels of creative and financial success. I have achieved the goals of producing film, web content and theatre on a small scale within the confines of what I can do with my own two hands and single mind: direct, set design and build, act, write, and in the end mentor others in their creative journeys by giving them opportunities to do the same. All of this has been a fulfilling experience, and I am always ready to move on to the next challenge that I create or comes my way. |
